Birthing Stories
VBA3C
(that's right, a VBAC after 3 c-sections!)
by Tina "VBACQUEEN"
I had my first CS following a failed induction at 35 weeks for severe pre-eclampsia. Hours of horrendous labour resulted in only 4cms dilation and my little one was suffering. The whole experience was awful.
My second CS was as a result of being talked into it by my consultant - there was no medical reason for it and if I'd known then what I know now, it would never have taken place. I had insisted that I be awake for this one and they managed to knock me out half way through by mistake so I missed another birth.
My 3rd baby was breech and as I didn't know that VBAC was an option anyway after 2 previous CS I had another elective.
My 4th baby arrived naturally after going dutifully into labour on my due date, labouring at home quietly all day before going into hospital. I used a TENS machine throughout most of my labour, and finally I got into a deep bath and made free with the entonox! I went from 4cms to fully dilated within half an hour, and half an hour after that my 9lbs 10oz girl was born (I'm only 5'2")
The shine was taken off a little when she adamantly refused to breathe and she was then whisked off to SCBU so I'm sad that I missed out on the elation of the moment. However, nearly 18 months later I look back upon my VBA3C as my biggest achievement - it has changed my life in all kinds of ways and I feel that I could happily take on the world
